Question:

Is tofu safe to eat, given all the genetic modification of soy?

— Anne Erdfelt

Answer:

It's an interesting question because, uh, genetic modification of soy is something that's, um, you know, happens a lot usually for, uh, consumption by animals, not as much as people, but if you're looking for an organic, uh, tofu, it'd probably be a better bet to be able to look for less genetic modification. You can also look to see if there's sometimes a label on it saying not genetically modified as well. Um, tofu is a safe product. Uh, millions of people eat it all the time. Um, I eat it very regularly. I probably eat it four times a week if I would say like that. My kids are kind of the same way. We eat it in all kinds of different forms from just, you know, baking it, uh, you know, and doing like tofu sandwiches to tofu scrambles for breakfast tacos in the mornings. We'll use it for dressings, you know, doing like a silk and tofu and turn it into other things as well. Um, but uh, yeah, so tofu definitely is a safe product to eat, but if you're worried about genetic modification, look for organic and non-genetically modified labels. So non GMO labels, it looks like a little check mark on something. You can find those on a, a lot of different products, um, including tofu.
